Discussion Guide Questions

  1. When you feel insecure or anxious, what is the first thing you usually turn to for comfort or control? Is it God, or something else? Share a recent example.
  2. The Israelites built a golden calf as a substitute for God’s presence. Are there “golden calves” in your life—things you run to for security when God feels distant?
  3. Moses refused to move forward without God’s presence. Is there an area of your life where you’ve been moving ahead without really seeking God?
  4. God describes Himself as compassionate, gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness. Which of these qualities do you most need to remember right now?
  5. What is one practical way you can remind yourself of God’s nearness during your daily routine?
  6. What are some “flashlights” or “GPS” in your life that you depend on for a sense of control? How can you shift your trust from those things to God this week?
  7. How does knowing God never changes help you face uncertainty?

  1. The sermon talked about how easy it is to compare ourselves to others or focus on our own failures. Is there an area of your life where you feel “never enough”? How might fixing your eyes on Jesus change your perspective this week?
  2. When was the last time you consciously spoke, prayed, or declared the power of Jesus’ blood over a situation in your life? What would it look like to do this in a specific area where you feel anxious or overwhelmed?
  3. God’s khesed is a love that keeps going even when we mess up. Is there a place in your life where you need to rest in God’s loyal love instead of striving to earn it? What would it look like to actually rest in that love?
  4. The story of Ruth challenges us to move beyond words to sacrificial action. Who in your life—family, neighbor, coworker, or even someone hard to love—could use a small act of loyal love from you this week? What is one practical step you can take?

Discussion Guide Questions

  1.  Is there a past mistake or sin that you still let define you, even though you know God has forgiven you? What would it look like to let your life be defined by Jesus’ scars instead?
  2. Think about a time when you experienced the consequences of a choice, even after you asked God for forgiveness. How did that shape you? Did it help you grow?
  3. The sermon said that confession is not about public shame, but about honesty before God and trusted community. Is there something you need to confess to God or to someone you trust? What’s holding you back?
  4. When you think about God’s justice, do you tend to see Him as harsh or as loving? How does the cross help you see both His justice and His love together?

  1. The sermon talked about anchoring ourselves in God’s faithfulness when life feels uncertain. Think about a current “storm” in your life—what would it look like to stand on God as your rock this week?
  2. When was the last time you were honest with God about your anger, disappointment, or confusion? What keeps you from bringing these feelings to Him, and what might change if you did?
  3. In the message, faithfulness was connected to practical things like worship, keeping your word, generosity, and family life. Which of these areas is most challenging for you right now? What is one step you could take to grow in faithfulness this week?
