SERMON DISCUSSION GUIDE

UnWrapped

DECEMBER 7, 2025

Bible Reading: Psalm 72  (NIV)

Discussion Guide Questions

  1. “Divine justice begins with thinking with God.” Think of a recent situation where you needed wisdom or justice (maybe in parenting, marriage, or a friendship). How could you have responded differently if you were “thinking with God” in that moment?
  2. We are called to be agents of hope and compassion, especially to the needy and overlooked. Who is someone in your life or community who needs hope right now? What is one practical thing you can do for them this week?
  3. The message encourages us to “unwrap hope” and not just talk or sing about it. What is one act of forgiveness, generosity, prayer, or service you can do this Christmas season to make hope real for someone else?
  4. The sermon says, “Hope is meant to be unwrapped and shared.” What holds you back from sharing hope with others? How can you overcome that barrier this week?

Bible Reading: Psalm 110  (NIV)

Discussion Guide Questions

  1. The world often measures us by what we accomplish. In what areas of your life do you feel pressure to perform or prove your worth? How might anchoring your identity in Christ’s position change your mindset this week?
  2. Think about a situation in your life right now that feels chaotic or out of control. What would it look like to declare, “Jesus rules here,” in that specific area?
  3. Are there battles—like temptation, anxiety, or relationship struggles—where you feel like you’re fighting alone? How can you remind yourself that you are part of the King’s army and not fighting in your own strength?
  4. The sermon talked about “stepping into the throne room” anywhere—at work, at home, in the car. What is one practical way you can pause and receive God’s peace and presence in your daily routine this week?
  5. Have you ever tried to “earn” your way into God’s presence through religious activity or good behavior? How does it feel to know that access is a gift because of Jesus’ priesthood?

Bible Reading: Luke 1: 46-55  (NIV)

Discussion Guide Questions

  1. Have you ever felt overlooked or insignificant, either by people or by God? How does Mary’s story speak to that experience?
  2. Are there ways you have tried to “earn” God’s favor instead of receiving it as a gift? How can you shift your mindset to focus on what God has done for you?
  3. Mary responded to God’s grace by glorifying and rejoicing in Him. What is one practical way you can let your soul “glorify the Lord” this Christmas season?
  4. The sermon challenged us not to leave the gift of Jesus “unopened.” Is there a part of your life where you have kept Jesus at a distance? What would it mean to “unwrap” His grace, forgiveness, or new life in that area?
  5. Who in your life might feel overlooked or lowly right now? What is one thing you can do this week to show them the love and attention that God shows in Mary’s song?
